1 Pump Design: The pump shall be of the submersible type with an integral motor and <br /> 2 pumping unit. The pump shall have a semi-open or vortex impeller capable of handling 2' <br /> 3 solids and solids-laden fluids without clogging. The suction inlet shall have a wave form <br /> 4 with the leading edge of the impeller overlapping the wave form. Should a textile or plastic <br /> 5 sheet plug the inlet, the shearing action of the leading edge of the impeller against the <br /> 6 wave form of the inlet will cut away enough of the material to clear the inlet. <br /> ' 7 <br /> S 2.02 MATERIALS <br /> 9 <br /> 10 A. Impellers: Impellers shall be made of erosion resistant chilled gray cast iron, non-clogging, <br /> 11 dynamically balanced design capable of passing solids as specified hereinbefore. The <br /> 12 impellers shall have a slip fit onto motor shaft and drive key and shall be fastened to the <br /> 13 shaft by a stainless steel bolt. <br /> ' 14 <br /> 15 B. Pump Volute: The pump volute shall be made of gray cast iron with smooth internal <br /> 16 surfaces free of rough spots or flashing. The volute shall have a centerline vertical <br /> 17 discharge. <br /> 18 <br /> 19 C. Self Cleaning Front Plate: The pump shall be equipped with a gray cast iron front plate, <br /> 20 mounted to the volute with four stainless steel adjusting screws to permit close tolerance <br /> 21 adjustment between the front plate and impeller for maximum pump efficiency. The front <br /> 22 plate shall be designed with a wave shaped inlet and an outward spiraling V-shaped groove <br /> 23 on the side facing the impeller, to shred and force stringy solids outward from the impeller <br /> 24 and through the pump discharge. <br /> 25 <br /> 26 D. Mechanical Seals: Pumps shall be provided with mechanical seals, oil lubricated as <br /> 27 specified by ABS. The seals shall not require the pumped liquid as a lubricant. <br /> 28 <br /> 29 The AF30 Raw Sewage Pumps shall be provided with a Seal Failure Warning System. <br /> 30 <br /> 31 E. Shaft and Bearings: Pump shafts shall be stainless steel with heavy duty ball bearings. <br /> 32 <br /> 33 F. Motor and Cables: Motors and cables shall be as specified by ABS for each pump, or <br /> 34 approved equal. <br /> 35 <br /> 36 G. O-Rings and Fasteners: All mating surfaces of the pump and motor shall be machined and <br /> 37 fitted with Buna N O-Rings where watertight sealing is required. Sealing shall be <br /> 38 accomplished by the proper fitting of the parts and not by compression or special torque <br /> 39 requirements. All external screws and fasteners shall be made of stainless steel. All <br /> 40 surfaces coming into contact with the liquid media, other than stainless steel, shall be <br /> 41 protected by a corrosion-resistant coating. <br /> 42 <br /> 43 H. Guide Bars and Brackets for Raw Sewage Pumps: Guide bars shall be 2 inch Schedule <br /> 44 40 galvanized steel pipe. Brackets shall be corrosion resistant; hot dip galvanized or <br /> 45 stainless steel. <br /> 46 <br /> 47 I. Safety Cable Hooks: Hooks shall be stainless steel attached to access cover for <br /> 48 connection of safety cable. <br /> 49 <br /> 50 J.
