establish bench marks , base lines , and reference points for <br /> locating principal structures . From this information , the <br /> Contractor shall develop and make all additional detail surveys <br /> and measurements necessary for the construction of the work. <br /> The Contractor shall keep the Engineer informed a reasonable <br /> time in advance of the times and places at which he will need <br /> lines, elevations, and reference points . Unless authorized by <br /> the Engineer, any work done without line and grade will be done <br /> at the Contractor ' s risk . The Contractor shall be responsible <br /> for the accuracy of his own layout work , and shall be liable ' <br /> for the preservation of all established lines and grades . <br /> Stakes damaged or destroyed by the operations of the Contractor <br /> will be replaced at his expense. , <br /> G5. 08 Materials and Tests . All materials shall be new and of a <br /> quality equal to that specified. Whenever the quality or kind <br /> of material or article is not particularly specified , the , <br /> materials or articles shall be of the best grade in quality and <br /> workmanship obtainable in the market from firms or established <br /> good reputation. At the option of the Engineer , the source of ' <br /> supply of each of the materials entering into the construction <br /> of the work shall be approved by the Engineer before delivery <br /> is undertaken. <br /> When requested by the Engineer, samples or test specimens of <br /> the materials proposed to be used shall be prepared at the <br /> expense of the Contrator and furnished by him in such ' <br /> quantities and sizes as may be required for proper examination <br /> and tests , with all freight charges prepaid, and with complete <br /> information as to the type, kind, or size of material and its ' <br /> source . All samples shall be submitted in ample time to permit <br /> the making of proper tests , analyses , or examinations before <br /> the time at which it is desired to incorporate the material <br /> into the work, and no material shall be used in the work unless <br /> or until it has been approved by the Engineer . All tests of <br /> material shall be made by the Engineer in accordance with <br /> recognized standard practice. Samples may be secured and tested <br /> whenever deemed necessary by the Engineer to determine the <br /> quality of materials . All tests will be made at the Agency' s <br /> expense, unless stated otherwise to be at the Contractor ' s , <br /> expense. <br /> Materials shall be furnished in ample quantities and at such <br /> times as to assure uninterrupted progress of the work . <br /> Materials, supplies, and equipment shall be stored properly and <br /> protected as required . The Contractor shall be entirely <br /> responsible for damage or loss by weather or other causes. <br /> G5. 09 Plant Inspection. The Engineer may inspect the production of <br /> materials or manufacture of products at the source of supply . <br /> Plant inspection, however , will not be undertaken until the <br /> G-18 ' <br />
