i <br /> r Whenever the Contractor ' s operations require one-way traffic <br /> or create a condition hazardous to the public traffic, he shall <br /> provide and station competent flagmen whose sole duties shall <br /> consist of directing the movement of public traffic through or <br /> around the work. <br /> G6 .10 Preservation of Property. Any obstruction along the line of <br /> work , such as mail or paper boxes , posts, fences, culverts, <br /> improvements , etc . , which interfere with the Contractor ' s <br /> operation shall be carefully removed and replaced by the <br /> Contractor as soon as possible in a satisfactory condition. <br /> Trees and shrubbery that are not to be removed, and pole lines, <br /> fences , signs , survey markers and monuments , buildings, and <br /> structures, conduits, under or above ground pipelines , and any <br /> other improvements and facilities adjacent to the work shall be <br /> protected from injury or damage and , if ordered by the <br /> ' Engineer, the Contractor shall provide and install suitable <br /> safeguards to protect such objects from injury or damage. If <br /> such objects are injured or damaged by reason of the <br /> Contractor ' s operations, they shall be replaced or restored to <br /> a condition as good as when the Contractor entered upon the <br /> work , at the Contractor ' s expense. When it becomes necessary <br /> for the Contractor to remove an existing fence as an <br /> obstruction to the work , the Contractor shall provide the <br /> necessary temporary fencing to be functionally as effective as <br /> the original for protection of livestock , equipment or <br /> property. <br /> Only those trees specifically designated for removal on the <br /> contract drawings shall be removed, except with specific <br /> approval of the Engineer . Tree branches that extend over the <br /> work and must be removed shall be cut off at the bole in a <br /> workmanlike manner . The Contractor shall then remove other <br /> branches so that the tree will present a balanced appearance. <br /> Scars resulting from the removal of branches shall be treated <br /> with a heavy coat of an approved tree seal. <br /> Before the Contractor removes any road sign which interferes <br /> with the work he shall receive approval to do so from the <br /> Engineer . All such signs shall be stored in an upright position <br /> and properly reset at the earliest opportunity, or maintained <br /> in place (see Par . G6 . 08) as directed by the Engineer . The <br /> Contractor will be required to pay the cost of replacing or <br /> repairing any signs damaged by reason of his operations or lost <br /> while in his custody, and upon his failing to pay such costs , <br /> they will be deducted and retained from any sums due under this <br /> contract. <br /> ' G6.11 Preservation of Monuments. The Contractor shall preserve all <br /> monuments and bench marks which may be encountered in the <br /> project work area.
