riparian corridor, and potential habitat exists for the delta button celery along the
riparian corridor and in the freshwater marsh. These impacts are considered potentially
significant.
Reclamation
Quarry Area - The applicant proposes to return the quarry area to agricultural
use upon completion of aggregate extraction. Because the area is currently in
agricultural use, has little habitat value, and is approximately 0.5 mile from the riparian
corridor, the impact of the reclamation plan on vegetation as proposed is expected to be
less than significant.
Processing Facility and Adiacent Areas - Upon completion of quarrying and
aggregate processing operation, the applicant is proposing to return the processing
facility area and adjacent lands to agricultural use. The reclamation of these lands
would result in the removal of vegetation and habitat that has been disturbed by the
existing quarry operation. Although these areas may have marginal habitat value, they
serve as buffer between the processing and mining operations, and the riparian corridor.
These areas are primarily manmade habitat including freshwater marsh and disturbed
scrub surrounding the processing facility. Grassland and scattered native trees would be
removed in the area north of the processing facility that is proposed as a borrow area
for reclamation. The remainder of the area has been directly impacted by current
mining and processing operations. Impacts addressed here are considered potentially
significant.
Wildlife
Ouarry Area
Operation in the quarry will be within approximately 0.5 mile of the Mokelumne
River riparian corridor at its closest point. The area between the quarry and the
riparian corridor is expected to continue to be used for asparagus farming during the life
of the project. Noise and activity associated with the quarry operations could have an
impact on wildlife along the riparian corridor and within the area at the base of the
bluff; however because of the distance from the corridor and the current level of
54
