INC
Area A is covered with an older asphalt surface that is approximately four inches thick
I
i
and it is very probable that the shallow depth sample obtained by TMG (1992) and trench
samples obtained by WZl are simply older asphalt that was cross-contaminated during
the sampling procedure
No further work to define the lateral or vertical extent of hydrocarbon impacted soak is
warranted at this site
6.4 Area D
Area D was investigated by WZI using previous TMG (1992) data to determine the
subsurface extent and nature of soil reported by TMG to have been slightly impacted by
heavy hydrocarbons and chlorinated hydrocarbons TMG drilled three shallow soil
borings to a maximum depth of 6 5 feet and one soil boring to 16 5 feet in Area D
Samples obtained from Boring D-4 had analytical results reported at a maximum of 11
. ppm of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as Diesel and 97 ppm Total Petroleum
Hydrocarbons from a depth of approximately 10 to 11 5 feet Chlorinated hydrocarbons
were found to be present in Boring D-3 at depths of 2 and 5 feet 1,1,1-Trichloroethene
and Trichloroethene were present at maximum concentrations of 0 0093 and 046 ppm,
respectively No other samples from the other three borings showed the presence of
chlorinated hydrocarbons at detectable amounts
WZI investigated Area D by drilling three shallow soil borings to a depth of 16 5 feet
(Exhibit 15) Samples were collected at depths of 10-11 5 feet and 15 to 16 5 and
submitted to an analytical laboratory Samples were tested using U S Environmental
Protection Agency Test methods 8015 (modified), 8020, and 8240
The subsurface geology was recorded on individual boring logs depicted in Appendix IV
Analytical results from the laboratory are depicted in Appendix V The subsurface
geology was similar to that reported in borings from the Concrete Tank area and
depicted in Exhibit 9
12270010 013 Page 23
