Health and Safety Plan for <br /> Delineation and Destruction of Well B-1 <br /> 3.1.5 Hand and Power Tool Safety <br /> All tools shall be used for the appropriate task. The following safety precautions should be <br /> observed when using hand and power tools: <br /> • Employees must inspect tools prior to use. <br /> • Tools shall be kept in safe operating condition <br /> • Use appropriate PPE to protect from debris, dust, fumes, and sharp edges. <br /> • Keep guards in place when operating power tools. <br /> • Never carry a power tool by the cord or yank the cord to disconnect it. <br /> • Unplug tools before installing, adjusting or changing any attachments or accessories. <br /> • Training shall be provided for any new tools introduced to a job. <br /> Special care should be taken when using of knives or other cutting devices. Proper operation <br /> requires securingibracing the item, cutting downward, and moving the instrument away from the <br /> body. When cutting round items (i.e., acetate liners), a hook blade should be used with a cutting <br /> motion away from the body. <br /> 3.1.6 Heavy Equipment <br /> Vehicles and heavy equipment shall not exceed work zone speed limits. All on-site personnel <br /> shall become familiar with potential safety concerns associated with any excavators, drill rigs or <br /> other heavy equipment used by subcontractors. <br /> Project personnel shall follow the precautions listed when working in the vicinity of heavy equipment. <br /> • Minimum PPE standards include steel-toed boots, safety glasses, high visibility vests, and <br /> hard hats. <br /> • Only personnel directly involved in the operations of the equipment should be in the <br /> work area. All non-essential personnel shall remain out of the work area. <br /> • Personnel must communicate with the drillers to identify pinch points and other areas to <br /> avoid and to identify locations of emergency shutoff buttons/switches. <br /> • Personnel must be aware of the location and operation of heavy equipment at all times. <br /> • Personnel should never assume that the operator sees them; eye contact and hand signals <br /> should be used to facilitate communication between the worker and operator. <br /> 10275-4 <br /> D U D E K 8 June 2017 <br />
