KLEINFELDER
To investigate said concerns, a total of 21 locations (numbered 4-38 through 4-58) were sampled
in the vicinity of the former wastewater ponds. The soil samples were collected using a hand
auger and slide hammer sampler. The samples were collected at the surface (0.5-1.0 feet below
grade) and at shallow depths of three feet below grade. All samples were collected in stainless
steel or brass tubes using a slide-hammer sampler. The soil samples were analyzed by Sequoia
Analytical for the following:
• CAM 17 Metals by EPA Methods
• EPA 8270 (Semi-Volatile Organics)
• EPA 8240 (Volatile Organics)
Twenty-one (2 1) of the 42 samples collected in the vicinity of the former waste water ponds were
analyzed. The 21 samples were either the shallow surface samples or the samples taken at a
depth of 3 feet. No VOCs from the EPA Method 8240 compound list were detected except for total
xylenes at 260 µg/1 kg in boring 4-47 @ 3.0 feet (former waste water pond area). No SVOCs from
the EPA Method 8270 compound list were detected. A number of tentatively identified compounds
were reported from the EPA Method 8270 open scan in some samples other than those obtained
from 4-47. All of the above items were addressed in Kleinfelder's "Limited Phase II Soil,
Former Waste Water Pond Bottoms (Phase I ESA Recommendation Number 5)..." dated
February 24, 1997 (Kleinfelder File No. 20-3978-O1.WR4).
While in the process of trying to obtain regulatory closure on this area, it was recommended that
a boring be advanced and soil sampled adjacent to the above total xylenes detection. The new
boring, 4-47A, was sampled on August 28, 1997. The results of that sampling and subsequent
chemical analysis are detailed in this report as follows.
SCOPE OF WORK
On August 28, 1997, a total of three soil samples were collected from boring 4-47A at three, four
and five foot depths. The boring was advanced using a a hand auger. All samples were collected
in stainless steel or brass tubes using a slide-hammer sampler. Field protocols are summarized
and attached as Attachment A of this report.
The samples were labeled and transported under chain of custody protocol, in an iced cooler, to
Sequoia Analytical Laboratory of Sacramento, California for analysis. Sequoia is certified by the
California State Department of Toxic Substances Control for the requested analyses. All three
soil samples were analyzed for the following:
• BTEX by EPA Method 8020
The samples were analyzed on a rush analytical turnaround.
20-3978-0 I.W 35/2017R551 Page No.2 of 5
Copyright 1997,Kleinfelder,Inc.
