hTJ KLEINFELDER
Two soil samples will be collected at boring location TP-9 advanced near a cyanide
process tank vault. The soil sample collected at depths of at depths of 66 to 72 inches
bgs will be analyzed for the following:
• Total Cyanide by EPA Method 9010
The subsurface soil samples at depths of 108 to 112 inches will be put on hold pending
the shallow soil sampling results.
The soil samples will be submitted for analyses on a standard turn-around time of
approximately 10 to 15 working days. Analyses requiring immediate to 24 hour hold
times will be submitted to the laboratory that same day or the following day as
necessary. Immediate hold times for pH will not be able to be strictly met since an
onsite laboratory expense is not deemed necessary for pH analyses alone. Soil
samples for Cr+ will be submitted to the analytical laboratory on a rush basis so the
laboratory will have time to meet this short holding time.
Each soil boring location discussed above will be staked and marked and additionally a
GPS unit will be used to mark each surface sampling location as possible. The exterior
corners of the Plating Room and the Treatment Plant will be marked using a GPS unit.
However, GPS coordinates will not be possible inside structures and under awnings, etc
where most of the soil samples are proposed. Therefore, future soil sample locations
will have to be identified based on corner-of-building coordinates, or other markers and
relying on measurements to sampling points if sample stakes are removed or no longer
legible. GPS data points will be taken from nearby features/objects other than onsite
buildings, which are likely not to be changed in the near future.
6.4. QUALITY CONTROL SAMPLING AND ANALYSES
Quality control sampling and analyses is summarized on Table 9. Kleinfelder will at a
minimum collect the following quality control samples:
1. Two duplicate soil samples will be collected from biased discrete samples,
one from the Plating Room and one from the Treatment Plant Area. The
duplicate soil samples will be taken from a soil sample to be analyzed for
each of the COPC.
2. Matrix spike/matrix spike duplicate (MS/MSD) samples will also be run at the
proposed laboratory, California Laboratory Services (CLS) for quality control.
See Appendix C for a complete summary of CLS's quality assurance/control
procedures). The number of MS/MSD samples analyzed will be based on
one per batch of approximately 20 samples and according to EPA Method
protocol.
57252.TO2/ST05R999/DH:ly Page 17 of 29
©2005 Kleinfelder, Inc.
