Work Plan For Remedial Approach and Well Installation 2
Ranch Market Site,23569 South Santa Fe Road,Riverbank,California May 2 2002
and clean up activities must begin immediately (Attachment 2).
REMEDIAL SYSTEM PLAN
Remedial Recommendation
Based upon the remedial review presented in SECOR's Final Remediation Plan dated February
28, 2001 and the information presented above, SECOR recommends soil vapor extraction and
ozone injection as the remedial approach at the site. Soil vapor extraction will remove the
gasoline from the vadose zone. Ozone injection will chemically destroy gasoline adsorbed to
soil and dissolved in groundwater within the saturated zone. In addition, ozone injection will
increase the dissolved oxygen concentration in the groundwater, further stimulating
biodegradation of the gasoline dissolved in groundwater. Results of the AS/SVE feasibility
testing indicate SVE will recover the petroleum hydrocarbons from the vadose zone and that air
sparging was effective in increasing dissolved oxygen concentrations in the offsetting wells. It
is assumed that ozone injection will also have a similar radius of influence as the air sparging.
Conceptual Remedial Design
The goal of the remediation project is removal and/or in-situ destruction of the gasoline
adsorbed to soil and dissolved in groundwater to concentrations below site-specific risk based
levels. Based on the results of the feasibility tests conducted at the site, SECOR recommends
the following wells be used to remediate the soil and groundwater at the site:
Ten (10) 2-inch diameter soil vapor extraction (SVE) wells; and
Twenty-three (23) 1.25-inch diameter ozone sparge wells.
The location of the proposed wells and the piping layout are shown on Figure 3 of 8 in
Attachment 1. Refer to Attachment 3,Table 1 for completion details of the proposed wells.
Soil Vapor Extraction System Specifications
Based on field data collected during the SVE test, a potential soil vapor extraction and ozone
sparge well array was developed. The proposed spacing for the SVE wells is approximately 30
to 40 feet apart. In order to achieve the 40-foot radius of influence as observed in the feasibility
test, an extraction flow rate of approximately 50 scfm will be needed in each well. Referring to
Figure 3 of 8 in Attachment 1, a total of 10 soil vapor extraction wells are proposed to recover
the majority of the gasoline range hydrocarbons adsorbed to soil within the vadose zone.
