Remedial Well and Soil Vapor Extraction System Installation Report 5 <br /> Ranch Market 23569 South Santa Fe Road Riverbank,CA November 27 2002 <br /> 4.2 Soil Sampling <br /> Sol] samples were collected from 17 of the 24 wells at various depths as described above <br /> Samples were collected from the HSA borings using a 2 5-Inch O D split-spoon sampler <br /> The sampler was lined with three 2-inch-diameter by 6-inch-long brass sample tubes in wells <br /> S-7, S-12, S-13, and S-17 to retain soil samples for laboratory analysis The split-spoon <br /> sampler was driven 18 Inches ahead of the augers at each sample point Selected soil samples <br /> were field screened for hydrocarbon vapors using a PID Working under the supervision of a <br /> California registered geologist, SECOR's field geologist logged the soil samples using the <br /> Unified Soil Classification System (Appendix B) Copies of the field notes detailing the well <br /> installation are included in Appendix C <br /> Selected samples were sealed, labeled and placed on lee in an insulated container for transport <br /> under chain-of-custody manifest to Kiff Analytical LLC, a California state-certified analytical <br /> laboratory located in Davis, CA, and analyzed using U S Environmental Protection Agency <br /> (EPA) method 8260B for BTEX,TPHg, and MtBE <br /> 4.3 Soil Vapor Extraction and Ozone Sparge Well Installation <br /> Four soil vapor extraction wells were installed in borings V-7 through V-10 using 2-inch- <br /> diameter, schedule 40 PVC blank casing and 0 020-inch-slot well screen with flush threads set <br /> from 13 to 30 feet bgs Twenty ozone sparge wells were installed in bonngs S-1 through S-20 <br /> using 0 75-inch-diameter, schedule 40 PVC blank casing attached to a 1 25-inch diameter <br /> ozone sparge screen In all wells, a#3-sand filter pack was installed in the annulus from the <br /> bottom of each boring to at least 2 feet above the top of the well screen, followed by a well <br /> seal consisting of a 2-foot-thick hydrated bentonite layer overlain by neat cement to ground <br /> surface The bentonite layer was constructed above the water table with bentonite pellets <br /> Each boring was then grouted using neat cement pumped through the augers up to grade The <br /> four vapor wells were secured by a locking expandable well cap The sparge wells were <br /> capped with a removal 3/a-inch PVC slip cap The vapor and sparge wells were fitted with a <br /> traffic-rated well box set in a sand/grout slurry to allow easy removal by future subcontractors <br /> during remediation system installation Well completion details for the 24 newly installed <br /> wells are presented in Table 2 and illustrated on the appropriate boring logs (Appendix B) <br /> Morrow Surveying, a certified surveyor for the State of California, surveyed the locations of <br /> the newly installed wells The latitude and longitude of each well was surveyed according to <br /> Assembly Bill 2886 guidelines (Appendix D) <br /> 4.4 Waste Profiling and Disposal <br /> During the installation of the vapor extraction wells and sparge wells, soil cuttings were <br /> stockpiled near the northwestern corner of the property on visqueen and left onsite pending <br /> . profiling and disposal Five soil samples were collected from the stockpile and combined into <br /> two composite samples (SP-1 [ABC] and SP-2 [AB]) by the laboratory The samples were <br /> I\Ranch Market-Riverbaak\Reports\RB-Remed Well Install doe SECOR International Incorporated <br />
