(AC3E)and has the following comments.
The ICAP presents a summary of the site investigation, description of the lateral and vertical extent
ofthe contamination at the site in soil and groundwater, a site conceptual model and a feasibility
study comparing several different remedial alternatives for addressing impacted soil. Asoil vapor
extraction (8VE) pilot test conducted and reported in2O82was reviewed. Based onreview nfthe
data and information presented, AGE recommends conducting SVE as an interim remediation of
the soil contamination at this site.
Groundwater elevation at the site has been dropping over the past few years. There are seven
shallow groundwater monitoring wells onsite, and one deep, discretely screened well. Currently
only the deep well has sufficient water in it for monitoring and sampling. In order to be able to
evaluate the current groundwater contaminant concentrations and the lateral extent of the plume,
AGE recommends the installation ofadditional shallow groundwater monitoring wells. The
necessity ofconducting remediation of the groundwater contamination will bmreviewed once
consistent data nnthe status of the contaminant concentrations isobtained.
8JC/EHDagrees with both ofthese recommendations. The new vve||s'screenintervals should
include the hydrologic unit HU-2 sand interval. Please proceed with submittal of a work plan for
initiation of interim remediation by soil vapor extraction, and for installation of additional shallow
groundwater monitoring wells to allow for collection of data on the current groundwater '
contamination concentrations. For maximum effectiveness cfthe 8VEremediation, the fine-
grained interva| inthevadoseooneneorbohngs B'1and B-3may need tobascreened separately.
The work plan indue for submittal nolater than March 25. 2O05.
/fyou have any questions please call Lori Duncan ot (2OQ)4G8-U337.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Department
\ 1-010
Lori Duncan, Senior REHS Nuel C.
