%.101 INTERN., TECHNOLOGY CORPORATION
A one to two foot bentonite seal will be placed over the gravel pack. Each well will then be
sealed to the surface with a 95% portland cement and 5% bentonite grout mix (Figure 4).
2.5 Well Development
L. The wells will be developed no less than 24 hours after completion. Well development will
allow the hydraulic conductivity of the formation near the well to be restored and sediment
that resulted from the drilling and installation of the wells to be removed. IT will develop the
wells by initially surging each well utilizing a bailer and or surge block. After the wells are
' sufficiently surged, the wells will be evacuated by removing approximately ten well volumes
i_
of water. All groundwater removed from the wells and decontamination liquids will be
containerized pending characterization and proper disposal. The wells will be considered
developed when measurements of temperature, conductivity and pH stabilize and when the
v
r water is relatively free of suspended material. The maximum differentials, which will be
taken as an indication of stabilization of the water being purged between 3 consecutive
l readings, are as follows:
[Parameter Maximum Differential for Stabilization
} Electrical Conductivity 10% of the instrument scale unit.
Temperature degrees Fahrenheit 10
L.
P H 0.1 unit
Water clarity Discharged water is clear or color stable
Field parameters will be recorded on a data sheet and included in the technical report
appendices. The purged water will be stored on-site in 55 gallon, (DOT-17E) drums until
analyses are completed. The water will be properly disposed of as determined by the
L analytical results.
2.6 Well Sampling
The wells will be sampled in conjunction with the next planned quarterly well sampling at the
site. Water level measurements will be made using a Solinst brand water level indicator.
Then the wells will be checked for the presence of free product utilizing an interface probe.
' The thickness of any free product layer will be recorded. Water level data will be recorded
for groundwater flow direction and gradient calculations.
MZA)9-28-92,/ENGM83.N ER 7
