' In July 1993, a subsurface investigation was conducted at the site by AquaGeosciences Inc. to
determine the extent of petroleum hydrocarbons present in soil and to determine if groundwater
' had been impacted This included drilling eight soil borings and collecting soil samples Three
of these borings were completed as shallow groundwater monitoring wells (MW-1, MW-2 and
MW-3) Analysis of soil samples indicated that the majority of petroleum hydrocarbons in soil
were present from about 10 feet below ground surface (bgs) to groundwater at a depth of
approximately 29 feet bgs and within a radius of 35 feet from the former UST pit. Soil
' analytical results are presented in Table I
' In August 1993, wells MW-1, MW-2, and MW-3 were monitored and sampled by
AquaGeosciences Inc Analytical results showed that MW-I contained no measurable
' concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons in the groundwater Wells MW-2 and MW-3
contained detectable levels of petroleum hydrocarbons
As requested b San
eq y Joaquin County Public Health Services/Environmental Health Division
' (PHS/EHD), groundwater samples were collected quarterly by Smith Environmental, formerly
RESNA Industries, Inc , from three shallow monitoring wells (MW-1, MW-2 and MW-3) from
' March 1994 through March 1995 Analytical results showed that MWA histoncally has
contained no measurable concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons in the groundwater Well
MW-2 contained low levels of petroleum hydrocarbons but has decreased to nondetect in March
1995 MW-3 contained detectable concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons The locations of
' the monitonng wells are shown on Figure 2 Monitoring data and groundwater analytical results
are containers in Tables 2 and 3, respectively
SCOPE OF SITE INVESTIGATION AND QUARTERLY MONITORING
' The work performed for this investigation included locating underground utilities, obtaining
permits from the PHS/EHD, drilling three soil borings, installing, surveying and developing
three monitoring wells, and analyzing selected soil samples and groundwater samples The
purpose of this work was to further define the lateral and vertical extent of petroleum
hydrocarbon contamination in the soil and groundwater All drilling activities were performed
•
WFN
1
