05 September 2002
AGE-NC Project No. 99-0605
_ Page 5 of 6
transported in a chilled container under chain-of-custody to Me Campbell Analytical, Inc. (MAI),
a California Department of Health Services (DHS)-certified laboratory. Each sample was analyzed
within 72 hours for TPH-g and BTEX and MTBE in accordance with EPA methods 8015 Modified
- and 8020, respectively.
6.2.2. Results
The SVE unit was operated up to 2,100 RPMs for the first four hours of the test and at approximately
2,000 RPMs for the second four hours of the test. Initial flow rates were measured at 35 scfm
(standard cubic feet per minute) and reached 42 sefm after 7 hours. OV readings ranged from 3.0 to
20 ppmv.Induced vacuum at extraction well VW-1 was measured continuallyat 100 inches ofwater.
TPH-g was detected in the soil vapor samples at concentrations ranging from 260 µg11 to 330 gg/l.
BTEX compounds were detected in the soil vapor samples at concentrations as high as 9.8 µg/1
(xylene). MTBE was detected in the soil vapor samples at concentrations as high as 31 µg/1.
Analytical results of the-soil vapor samples are included in Table 6. Laboratory data for the soil
vapor sample are included in Appendix D.
7.0. CONCLUSIONS
Based upon data collected at the site, AGE concludes:
- The vertical and lateral extent of impacted soil is defined. Based on the concentrations of
MTBE remaining in the soil, the MTBE plume was mapped as a vertically elongated cylinder
of approximately 15 feet radius and 30 feet length.
• Soluble MTBE was detected in two soil samples collected during installation of the SVE
well at low concentrations of 2.3 and 2.Ogg/l, respectively.
• AGE calculated that an estimated 0.57 kg or 1.25 lbs of MTBE remain in soil.
• Five vapor samples collected during the 8-hour SVE pilot test detected MTBE at
concentrations ranging from approximately 6 to 31 gg/l.
• BTEX compounds and MTBE were not detected in ground water at the site.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
