, <br /> 1 <br /> Problem Assessment Report November 20, 1990 <br /> Fire Engine Company No. 2, Stockton, California2 <br /> AGS 38009-., <br /> A soil sample collected on April 1, 1987. by the City of Stockton after removal of the tank <br /> and submitted to California Water Labs, Incorporated, of Modesto, California, (California <br /> Hazardous Waste Testing laboratory Certificate No. 130), The soil sample.was analyzed <br /> for total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg), benzene, toluene, xylene, and total <br /> lead. The re-vtlts of these analyses indicated concentrations of 3,300 parts per million(ppm) <br /> of TPHg,380 ppm of xylene, 280 ppm of toluene,.ard 54 ppm of benzene.were present in-, <br /> the sample. Total lead was not detected. All the detected constituents exceeded allowable <br /> levels established by the San Joaquin i rabic Health Service(SJPHS). Copies of the analyses <br /> are included in Appendix A to this report. On the basis of these results, the.City of <br /> Stockton Department of Public Works requested that Applied GeoSystems conduct a <br /> subsurface environmental investigation to evaluate the extent of hydrocarbons. <br /> REGIONAL GEOLOGY AND HYDROGEOLOGY <br /> The site is underlain by the Modesto Formation, which is divided into nonmarine basin <br /> deposits, fan deposits,and stream channel deposits consisting of clay,silt,and sand (Rogers. <br /> 1966).
