are not available in Terranext files) show that total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) as
gasoline and as diesel and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX) were all
below detection limits in site ground water in the vicinity of the former USTs. Available
records indicate that these monitoring wells were abandoned in November or December of
1992.
Terranext (then Industrial Compliance [IC]) performed site investigations on behalf of SPTCo
in August and November of 1992, in May of 1993, and in August and September of 1994.
During this series of site investigations, approximately 110 surface and shallow subsurface
soil samples were collected and analyzed for total lead, approximately 40 surface and shallow
subsurface soil samples were collected and analyzed for soluble lead, and two monitoring
wells (MW-1 and MW-2) were installed and sampled. The shallow subsurface samples were
generally collected from 0.5 to 3 feet below around surface (bgs). a limited number of
samples were from as deep as 10 feet bgs. Soil samples from the August 1992 site
investigation were analyzed for the full suite of California Assessment Manual (CAM)
metals. Soil samples from the August 1992 site investigation were also analyzed for TPH as
T gasoline and diesel, for BTEX, and for polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons. Selected soil
samples from the August and September 1994 site investigation were analyzed for soluble
barium, cadmium, copper, mercury, and zinc in addition to soluble lead. None of the
.. metals, except lead, or the hydrocarbon compounds analyzed were detected at concentrations
requiring remedial action. Total lead concentrations (by U.S. Environmental Protection
d.. Agency [EPA] Method 6010) ranged from <5.0 mg/kg to 3.520 mg/kg. Soluble lead
concentrations (by California WET using a deionized water leach) ranged from <0.016
mg/L to 0.49 mg/L. All soil sample analytical results discussed above are presented in
Tables 1 through 4 and Table 7 in the IC report dated November 18, 1994 (report entitled:
i
Site Remediation Report/Workplan, Southern Pacific Transportation Company, Old Tracy
Yard, Tracy, California). These results, and the established soil cleanup level (220 mg/k(y
total lead) and goal (0.015 mg/L soluble lead) were used to define the lateral extent and `
369-002.rpt/08-09-964,keydata/oldtracyi reports.rpt002 10
TerraNext
