' NOA Environmental Project Number E98191
' anticipated that these wells will be constructed as close as practicable to the western perimeter fence
adjacent to AIPS Pond#4 and the Storage Lake. Refer to the appendix portion of this workplan for
a graphic depicting the proposed well locations.
' The American Society of Test and Materials(A.S.T.M.) standard designated D5092-90, "Standard
Practice for Design and Installations of Groundwater Monitoring Wells in Aquifers,"is proposed as
the generally applicable specification for well construction pursuant to this work plan. It is
anticipated that the three (3) wells will be constructed using four inch inside diameter (4"I.D.)
' Schedule 40 P.V.C.pipe. It is further anticipated that the screened portion of the wells will range in
depth from approximately ten feet(10')to thirty-five feet(35')below the ground surface, with total
depth of the wells being approximately forty feet(40')below the ground surface. It is proposed that
' the well screen be 0.020" and the filter pack be washed and dried No. 3 sand. Refer to the appendix
portion of this work plan for a graphic depicting the proposed well construction details.
' Disposal of Auger Cuttings from the Groundwater Monitoring Well Boring:
Auger cuttings(bulk soils generated during the drilling operation)produced during the advancement
of the groundwater monitoring wells to their terminal depth will be placed in drums which will be
' sealed, labeled, and stored on site prior to disposal. It is anticipated that on-site disposal will occur,
but this will be conditioned upon the facility manager providing suitable space for this purpose.
' EE uipment Decontamination Procedures During the Groundwater Monitoring Well Boring:
Drilling equipment including, but not limited to, samplers, drop hammers, drill rods, plug, augers,
' etc. will be steam cleaned prior to use in each drilling location. Cleaning will be conducted in such
a manner so as to contain the water, which will be placed in the appropriate drums, labeled, sealed,
and stored on site prior to disposal in the appropriate manner.
' Sampler and drilling parts not subjected to steam cleaning will be triple rinsed in two tap water
immersions and then distilled water after being decontaminated in a solution of appropriate detergent
and water. These rinse waters and decontamination washes will be contained in the appropriate
drums, documented, sealed, and stored on site prior to the appropriate disposal.
' Geotechnical Evaluation of Subsurface Soils/Groundwater Monitoring Wells:
Borings will be advanced using truck mounted drilling rigs. NOA Environmental reserves the right
to employ other drilling equipment and technologies based upon need and site specific conditions.
Under the direction of the Field Geologist, soil samples will be acquired from five foot(5') sample
intervals,or at each change in lithology. In each boring location, the soils encountered will be logged,
and these logs will be included in the well completion report.
Soil Sampling Methods and Equipment
Soil samples will be acquired for the sole purpose of accurately describing the site lithologies by
advancing a two inch (2") diameter Modified California or Split Spoon sampler into the soils a
minimum of eighteen inches(18")using a one hundred and forty(140)pound hammer dropped thirty
Page -10-
1
