(AGE) for the above-referenced site on your behalf. The work
plan was submitted in response to the EHD letter dated February 7, 2008, directing
additional investigation to define the vertical and lateral extent of petroleum hydrocarbon
contamination for groundwater in the deeper zones.
In the work plan, AGE proposes to advance one cone penetration test (CPT) boring
(CPT-1) to approximately 180 feet below surface grade (bsg) in the former underground
storage tank (UST) area to electronically characterize subsurface lithology and
permeability units; based on this information, AGE proposes to advance approximately ten
additional borings to collect depth-discrete groundwater samples.
Grab groundwater samples are proposed to be collected from individual borings advanced
adjacent to CPT-1 at depths greater than 120 feet bsg. It is proposed that the number of
sampling borings will be determined based on petroleum hydrocarbon odor detected in the
depth-discrete groundwater samples collected from borings adjacent to CPT-1. In addition,
four sets of paired borings (B-4 through B-7) will be advanced at locations illustrated on
Figure 2 of the work plan to collect grab groundwater samples at two unspecified, yet
distinct depths determined by data collected during the advancement of CPT-1. Paired
borings associated with B-5 will be advanced on the adjacent property at 1607 Turnpike
Road, and the remainder of the borings will be advanced onsite.
AGE proposes to conduct the proposed fieldwork in conjunction with fieldwork yet to be
proposed by AGE for the adjacent property located at 1607 Turnpike Road, since it appears
that the two sites share a co-mingled plume. However, AGE proposes to obtain an access
agreement from the property owner at 1607 Turnpike Road for the advancement of B-5
paired borings since this scope of work is considered part of your site investigation.
