The monitoring wells contain at most 35 ug/1 chloroform. You proposed to treat the purge
water with granulated activated carbon as described in the 3 May 2002 Workplan for Purge Water
Treatment and Discharge, and discharge the treated water to a stormwater basin on the facility. Based
on the low and declining concentrations of chloroform in the groundwater, the treatment of the purge
water, and that the discharged water quality is better than underlying groundwater quality, this
discharge meets the criteria for test pumping of fresh water wells. Therefore, we have determined that
the project meets the required conditions for approval under the Waiver of Reports of Waste Discharge
and Waste Discharge Requirements for Specific Types Of Discharge Within the Central Valley Region,
Resolution R5-2003-0008. GPC may discharge the treated purge water to the stormwater basin.
If you have any questions or comments regarding this notification, please contact Ms. Devra Lewis at
(9 255-3119.
THOMAS R.
