NARPMTXVE
Reuse of Paint thinner
Painting Operations will recycle the paint thinner for cleaning painting
equipment. Currently, the paint thinner is used once and discarded as a
RCRA hazardous waste. Upon completion of the cleaning process, the thinner
will be placed into a labeled container for reuse. The container must remain
covered unless thinner is being added or removed. Paint sludge will settle out
at the bottom of the container producing an additional waste stream. The
paint thinner will be skimmed off and reused until it can no longer be used for
equipment cleaning. The sludge and waste paint thinner will be accumulated
and disposed of as a hazardous waste. The reuse of paint thinner will reduce
the overall amount of hazardous waste generated from the process of
cleaning equipment.
Training
Training will be provided for department managers and facility operators.
Training will include job specific techniques and safety requirements. Training
facility operators will decrease the amount of waste generated at the source
by reducing the amount of thinner used and the number of possible spills and
leaks that may occur from operator error. A description of general annual
training is provided in Section III - General Administrative Controls.
The four-year numerical goal for Waste Paint Thinner is 15%.
CWC 221 — LUBE OIL
Product Storage
Improved storage of products, such as lube oil and latex paint, will reduce the
amount of waste generated. Using stored products before the material's shelf
life expires will reduce the amount of retrograde materials generated as non-
RCRA wastes. Containers holding a hazardous material or waste must be
kept closed except when being added to or removed from the container.
Containers holding liquids and dispersible solids must also be kept airtight.
Training
Training will be provided for department managers and facility operators.
Training will include job specific techniques and safety requirements.
