Inspection Report
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories
Site 300
Inspection date - 08/16-17/2001
were locked down tight. I also observed that all drums were labeled with the required information. I checked
the inspection logs and found them to be in order. I noted that John had signed the inspection log for the
inspection conducted today. I observed no violations in this area.
I then observed Magazine two. While inside Magazine two, I observed that all containers were closed and
sealed with plastic ties which must be cut to open the container. All containers were labeled with the required
information. I also reviewed the inspection log, which appeared to be in order. I noted that John had also
signed the inspection sheet for the inspection conducted today of Magazine two.
BLDG. 883:
Bldg. 883, is divided into two storage areas. One storage area is for 90-day storage only, and the other area is
the permitted, one year, storage area. The entrances to each area are kept locked. Rob has responsibility for
this area. He unlocked the gates to both areas to allow access for the inspection. I observed spill control
equipment, fire extinguishers, and a decon station equipped with an eyewash/shower in both areas. I reviewed
the inspection logs for the one year permitted area. While in the permitted portion of Bldg. 883, 1 asked Rob if
he could provide me with some WDR's that would be an example of the use of generator knowledge and how
that information is recorded on the WDR (Attachment B). He said that they would be available before the end
of the inspection. We then got into a lengthy discussion regarding the previous violations related to the lack of
a waste analysis for the Safety-Kleen parts washer and the requirements to do analysis and to maintain
documentation of generator knowledge. No violations were observed in this area. This concluded my field
observations.
Throughout the inspection Alan had been conducting monitoring of the areas as we visited them. For details of
his monitoring activities and results see Attachment F.
DOCUMENT REVIEW:
After leaving Bldg. 883, 1 began my document review with the manifests which are kept in Rob's office. For
details of the manifest review, see Section III.
August 17, 2001
DTSC 13/951 Page 9 of 11
