SOIL EXCAVATM AND DISPOSAL WORMPLAN
32 Tokay Street Lodi Calrfornia
20 BACKGROUND
2 1 Site Location
The site is located at the Pacific Coast Producers Lodi Cannery Plant on the north side
of Warehouse #6, in an industrial area of Lodi, California
2 2 Site Description
A 10,000-gallon diesel tank was reportedly removed from the site in 1987 The
approximately 10-foot-wide by 35-foot-long by 15 to 20-foot-deep excavation was
backfilled with a blend of previously-excavated sal and clean imported fill However, sal
containing diesel fuel was noted in the excavation pit, prompting a request for
investigation and remediation activities from the San ,Joaquin County Public Health
Services Department, Environmental Health Division (County) The County requested
removal of all soil containing greater than 100 ppm TPH, as diesel, and 0 005 ppm BTEX
In 1991, five soil borings were drilled and sampled to depths of 20 feet below grade in the
area of the former excavation (Figure 2) The borings were drilled to assess the vertical
and lateral extent of soil containing petroleum hydrocarbons Four of the borings were
drilled 5 feet from the former excavation on each of the four sides The fifth boring was
drilled in the center of the former excavation Soil samples from depths ranging from 4 to
20 feet contained concentrations of TPH, as diesel, ranging from below detection lima
(BDL) to 603 ppm Concentrations of BTEX ranged from BDL to 0 0483 ppm No
hydrocarbons were detected in soil samples from the borings north and south of the
excavation
3 0 WORKPLAN
I3.1 Soil Characterization
Previous soil sampling indicated significant TPH, as diesel, concentrations (greater than
100 ppm) to a depth of 5 feet below grade, and detectable TPH, as diesel, concentrations
to a maximum depth of 15 feet, in both native soil and backfill material The extent of
significant TPH concentrations in native soil north, south, and west of the excavation has
been established (Figure 2)
r
92-074A WPN 2
I
