1' A
Di Salvo Truck Lines-SIR
March 9. 1995
Page-2-
In December, 1957, OES over-excavated soil near the fill end of TKI to a total depth of
approximately 211 feet below the around surface. At the direction of the SJCPHS,EHD representative
on site, Kleinfeider collected one soil sample from the floor of the over-excavation. The soil sample
was very moist, Grey, silty clay. Laboratory analyses of the floor sample indicated 190 mg/kg diesel
was present in the soil. No other petroleum hydrocarbons were detected at the reported laboratory
detection limits.
In July, 1953, OES removed one 10,000-gallon diesel UST (TK2) located adjacent to the
former location of TKI. A SJCPHS,EHD representative was on site to select sampling locations from
beneath TK2 and the required laboratory analyses. Kleinfelder was on site to collect soil samples.
One soil sample was collected from beneath each end of TK2 at a depth of approximately 14 feet
below the ground surface. The soil sample was very moist, grey, sandy silt. Laboratory analyses
detected 1,200 mrkg diesel in the sample collected from beneath the :forth end of TK2 and 310
mg/kg diesel in the sample collected from beneath the south end. No other petroleum hydrocarbons
were detected at the reported laboratory detection limits in the soil samples collected from beneath the
former location of TK2.
Records reviewed at the SJCPHS,EHD revealed that several sites have been impacted by
petroleum hydrocarbons in the vicinity of the Port of Stockton. The nearest site to Di Salvo Truck
Lines is located at 601 South Ventura Avenue and is approximately 2,000 feet to the south. A second
site located at 21 IS West Washington has undergone a groundwater investigation, however, the site
has not been impacted by petroleum hydrocarbons according to SJCPHS,EHD records. The site is
located approximately 1,000 feet southwest of the Di Salvo site. Based on the records reviewed at
SJCPHS,EHD, Condor concludes:
1) The potentiometric surface at 601 S. Ventura site was relatively flat (0.8'1100' to
1.5'1100') and the groundwater flow direction was toward the east-southeast in June of 1992,
and June of 1993. The potentiometric surface at the 2115 W. Washington site was also
relatively flat (0.8'!100'), however, the groundwater flow direction was toward the west-
northwest in March, 1994.
2) The records reviewed did not indicate that petroleum contamination identified in the soil
and groundwater at nearby sites has impacted the Di Salvo Truck Lines site.
n
t' CONDOR
