18 July 2013
AGE Project No. 12-2466
dispenser area; borings B4 through B6 were advanced to depths of 20 feet bsg near the
UST area and borings 1310 and 1311 were advanced to depths of 18.5 feet bsg near the
oil/water separator. Soil boring locations are illustrated in Figure 2 and Appendix A.
Soil borings were advanced utilizing a truck-mounted AMS Powerprobe drill-rig equipped
with 1.25-inch diameter probing rods. The AMS powerprobe uses a hydraulic hammer to
drive sampling tools to specified depths.
SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS
Soil samples were collected from borings B1, B2, B3, B7, B8 and B9 at 5 feet and 10 feet
bsg, from borings B4, B5 and B6 at 10 feet, 15 feet and 20 feet bsg, and from borings 1310
and 1311 at 13.5 feet and 18.5 feet bsg, using a 1.5-inch diameter macro-core sampling
assembly loaded with one 4-foot long acetate liner. After collection, 6-inch portions of the
continuous samples selected for analysis were separated, the ends covered with Teflon
sheets, capped and sealed with tape. Soil samples were labeled with soil boring location,
depth, time, date and sampler's initials and then placed in a chilled container. Soil samples
were transported under chain-of-custody to Cal Tech Environmental Laboratories (CTEL)
a State of California Department of Public Health-certified analytical laboratory. Selected
samples were analyzed for:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline, diesel and motor oil (TPH-g, TPH-d,
TPH-mo) in accordance with EPA Method 8015 Modified (131 through 1311); and
• Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in accordance with EPA method 8260B (131
through B9 only).
Soil sample duplicates were extruded into plastic bags and field-screened for the presence
of organic vapors using an organic vapor meter (OVM), equipped with a photo-ionization
detector (PID). Additionally, the soil was visually classified in accordance with the Unified
Soil Classification System (USCS). PID readings and soil classifications were recorded on
boring logs, provided in Appendix B.
EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION
Prior to sample collection, soil sampling equipment was thoroughly rinsed with clean water
after being washed with a solution of Alconox. Powerprobe rods were thoroughly cleaned
prior to soil probe boring advancement.
Advanced Geo Environmental,Inc.
