' 26 October 2000
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0466
' This report concerns the investigation of the western ditch area and the septic leach field areas.
' 1.2.1. West Ditch
AGE does not have a copy of the original Phase I report and bases the following discussion on
' inferences from various reports issued by Kleinfelder, Inc. (Kleinfelder) and from the PSI report
executive summary.
' Kleinfelder,in American Moulding and Millwork Phase IIIAssessmentR eport,dated 06 May 1992,
reported the oil and grease were detected in surface soil, but not at 5 feet below surface grade(bsg)
in the drainage ditch. Soil was being removed from the ditch at the timc of the Kleinfelder report.
PSI reported that metals and chlorinated hydrocarbons had been detected in soil in the west ditch
area.
The oil and grease, chlorinated hydrocarbons and metals were the potential contaminants of concern
in the ditch soil. Additionally, the former dipping tanks that utilized the wood preservatives
pentachlorophenol and trichlorophenol are located nearby, creating an additional compound of
' potential concern.
' 1.2.2. Leach Fields
Kleinfelder's 15 June 1987 Work Plan-Phase Illnvestigation for the subject site proposed a boring
to test soil for pentachlorophenol/trichlorophenol(PCP/TCP),total petroleum hydrocarbons(TPH),
formaldehyde, lead, zinc and chromium in the septic tank leach field no heast of the Finger Joint
' Building.AGE infers that the leach field described is the leach field curre fitly in use northeast of the
warehouse, which is also northeast of the Finger Joint building(approximately 550 feet away),but
much closer to the former(approximately 50 feet away).
' A second septic leach field lies west of the Millwork building, approximately 1,400 north of the
septic leach field described above. This leach field does not appear to be referred to in the
Kleinfelder documents. According to Mr. Glen Gallup, potential contaminants in the Millworks
leach field would include formaldehyde, lead, zinc and chromium.
1.3. SCOPE OF WORK
' AGE, in Phase II Site Assessment Work Plan -Septic Leach Fields and Drainage Ditch, dated 02
June 2000,proposed to advance one soil boring to 35 feet bsg in each of the leach field areas and one
near the western ditch area for the collect soil and grab ground water samples. Additionally, AGE
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
