09 August 1999
AGE-NC Project Na. 98-0466
for the diesel fuel analysis:No soil samples were collect d from P4:The ground water sample from-
P4 was'collected`into a;l-liter amber bottle. The sample containers were labeled with probe boring
designation, date;.time, and sampler's initials.
rThe properly,preserved grab ground-water samples Were.stored in an ice-chilled, container.and
shipped under chain-of-custody to MAI for analysis. Tlie grab ground water samples from P2 and
P3 were analyzed for:
k . BTEX,by EPA-Method 602; and
• MTBE by EPA Method 8260.
The.grab ground water sample collected from probe bo ring P4 was analyzed for:
• TPH-d by EPA Method 8015-M.
*. 3:3. EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION
Sampling tools and sample liners used for-sample collect on were thoroughly rinsed with cleanwater
-after,washing with a solution ofAlconox prior,to samp ing soil and/or ground water.
3.4. ABANDONMENT_ OF PROBE,BORINGS
Following soil and/or ground water sampling;the probe borings were abandoned by backfilling the .
boring with portland cement containing approximately 3%powered bentonite:A tremmie pipe was
utilized to introduce the cement to the boring. Probe bo Ings P3 and 04 were easily backfilled, but
probe borings P1 land P2 were difficult as the fluids apparently were escaping the boring trace by
flowing into the pea-gravel backfilled into the former U1, T pit. The portland cement introduced into
P.1 and P2 on 22 June 1999 must have sealed the conduits into.the peagravel-as the holes easily,
filled on 24 June 1999. Ms..Carol Oz of the-PHS-EHD was present to witness the backfilling of P4
and the final backfilling of P i and P2.
4.0. RESULTS -
Soil encountered in P2 consisted primarily of damp,-'d k yellowish brown to moderate yellowish
brown clay-and silt from 5'feet bsg to 35 feet bsg. Satu ated, dark yellowish brown silty fine sand
was encountered at 40 feet bsg;-saturated fine to medii m.sand was encountered at 50 feet bsg. A
clayey silt was encountered at 45 feet bsg. Damp claye^ silt, silt'andsilty clay was.encountered in
the backfilled former-excavation down to 40 feet bsg in samples collected from probe boring P3.
I Advanced CeoEnvironmental,Inc.
