Kennedy/Jenks/Chilton
• collection and laboratory analyses of surface soil from the
1 sales yard,
• collection and laboratory analyses of subsurface soil and
' groundwater, and
• evaluation of three storage trailers and their contents
' A brief discussion of the results of the preliminary site investigation
is presented below
' Collection and Laboratory Analyses of Surface Soil from the Sales Yard
Surface soil collected from the sales yard was analyzed for
t organochlorine, organophosphate, triazine, and carbamate and urea
pesticides, and chlorinated herbicides Several organochlorine
pesticides were detected at concentrations exceeding the potentially
relevant criteria developed for the site.
Concentrations of DDT exceeding 1,000 ug/Kg were found in four discrete
soil samples collected from two localized areas One of the areas was
t located adjacent to the southern fenced boundary of the sales yard. DDT
concentrations detected in this area ranged from 3,900 ug/Kg to 190,000
ug/Kg The extent of DDT in soil south of the fenced sales yard
boundary was not determined during the preliminary site investigation.
The second area was located east of the eastern access door of the
warehouse. Elevated DDT concentrations detected in the second area were
1,400 ug/Kg and 2,900 ug/Kg. Figure 4 shows the location of surface
soil collection points and the two localized areas where DDT concentra-
tions exceeded 1,000 ug/Kg.
' Collection and Laboratory Analyses of Subsurface Soil and Groundwater
Two soil borings (8-1 and B-2) and four groundwater monitoring wells
(MW-1, MW-2, MW-3, and MW-4) were installed at the facility to assess
' whether nitrates and petroleum hydrocarbons were present in soil and
groundwater. The approximate locations of the borings and monitoring
wells are shown on Figure 5. Only low concentrations of nitrate were
' detected in soil and groundwater at the site Laboratory analyses
performed on soil and groundwater samples collected from soil boring B-1
and monitoring well MW-1 in the vicinity of the underground diesel fuel
' storage tank indicated that total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) and
benzene, xylenes, toluene, and ethylbenzene (BXT&E) were present in soil
and groundwater in the vicinity of the tank The lateral extent of
these chemicals in groundwater, downgradlent from the tank, was not
determined during the preliminary site investigation
Evaluation of Three Storage Trailers and Their Contents
The contents of three storage trailers located along the southern
boundary of the sales yard were evaluated by visual inspection during
the preliminary site investigation Trailers number 1 and 3, shown on
' WP113 1.2 882525.01
