4.8 PUBLIC SERVICES
Schools
Students from the project site would attend schools within the Galt Joint Union School District and the
Galt High School District. Elementary and middle school students would attend Fairsite School and
Vernon E. Greer Middle School, respectively. High school students would attend Galt High School. All
three schools are located in Galt, approximately two miles from the project site. Capacity of the Fairsite
Elementary School is 468 students with a current enrollment of 788 students. This school site cannot
accommodate additional portable classrooms at this time. The Vernon E. Greer Middle School has a
capacity of 500 students with a current enrollment of 478 students (Hoff, 1991). Student projections
indicate this school will be at capacity in the near future. The district is constructing a new elementary
school in the northeastern area of Galt. However, this school will not be large enough to accommodate
the projected number of students anticipated with new development. Galt High School has capacity for
about 952 students, but has a current enrollment of 1,147 students (Arwood, 1991). Bus service is
available to all three schools.
Solid Waste
Solid waste collection at the project site would be provided by Sanco Disposal Company and would be
provided on a weekly basis. Solid waste from the project site would be delivered to the new North
County Landfill on Harney Lane. This landfill opened November 1, 1991, and has a 30-year capacity.
The solid waste collection company provides a recycling program, but it is not yet available in the rural
areas. The nearest recycling center is located in Lodi at 1333 East Turner Road (Murdaca, 1991).
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS AND MITIGATIONS
Significance Criteria
Unless otherwise noted, all identified impacts are considered significant adverse impacts. The
corresponding mitigation measures, unless otherwise noted, would be sufficient to reduce impacts to a
less-than-significant level. Although not required byCEQA,some less-than-significant impacts have been
discussed because they are issues of local concern. While no mitigation is required by CEQA for less-
than-significant impacts, in some cases mitigation measures are proposed that would reduce the level of
impact.
Fire Protection
Impact
4.8-1 The proposed development would incrementally increase the demand for fire
protection service.
4.8-2
