4.8 PUBLIC SERVICES
Miti ag tion
4.8-2 A contract between the two fire districts designating the primary responder to serve the
development should be approved prior to approving the final map.
Police Protection
Impact
4.8-3 Development of the proposed project would create an incremental demand for
police protection service.
The Sheriff's Department does not consider that this project would create a significant impact on the
demand for police services since the development is proposed to be a gated community. However, to
provide adequate police services, there is an existing and projected need for additional staffing and
equipment. Throughout the County, the number of deputies assigned to patrol has been reduced. The
Sheriff's Department has attempted to maintain at least two patrol deputies in each beat. Recent studies
show that the department is only able to field .67 deputies per shift. The number of personnel assigned
to patrol has been further reduced so that the Department may not be able to maintain the present staffing
level(Burnett, 1991). Thus, the level of service will continue to decrease as development occurs, unless
financing mechanisms are implemented when projects are approved. Approval of this project would
contribute to the cumulative demand placed on County Sheriff's services.
Mitigation
t`
4.8-3 Development plans should be submitted for review by the Sheriffs Department to ensure
that adequate crime prevention measures have been incorporated into developmentplans.
Schools
Impact
4.8-4 The number of students generated by the proposed project would exacerbate
existing overcrowded conditions.
4.8-4
