Investigates water supply and <br /> other wetland management issues and opportunities. Evaluated potential new <br /> water sources and wetlands management enhancement possibilities at two <br /> major private wetland areas in California's San Joaquin Valley: the <br /> Grasslands area and Kern-Tulare Basin. Assessed historical and current <br /> conditions, waterfowl use, water needs, water supply options, and impacts of <br /> contaminated agricultural drainwater on waterfowl and other wildlife. Also <br /> evaluated potential assistance programs. Conducted owner surveys to <br /> determine economic values of wetlands, and developed management <br /> recommendations to protect habitat values. <br /> Wildlife Impact Assessment and Mitigation Planning for Development. <br /> Project manager and wildlife task leader. Assesses wildlife population and <br /> habitat impacts for residential and industrial development projects in the <br /> Central Valley, Sierra Nevada foothills,San Francisco Bay Area,coastal lands, <br /> and other areas of California. Analyzed major issues pertaining to endan- <br /> gered species, deer winter range, wetlands, and riparian and oak woodlands. <br /> Prepared a user's guide for the California Department of Fish and Game's <br /> Wildlife Habitat Relationships program. The program included a computer- <br /> ized database and series of reference books. <br /> Natural Resource Management Planning. Prepares wildlife and other <br /> biological resource sections of natural resource management plans. Projects <br /> included plans to enhance habitats for waterfowl, riparian wildlife, and <br /> threatened and endangered species for the 2,400-acre Sacramento County <br /> Regional Sanitation District's buffer lands,and development of a management <br /> plan for livestock grazing and wildlife resources for the Los Vaqueros <br /> Reservoir. Also prepared and contributed to numerous project mitigation <br /> plans. <br /> Natural Resource Management Policy and Economics. Conducts policy and <br /> economic analyses of wildlife issues in natural resource management. <br /> Assessed the status of natural diversity in California and policy needs to <br /> improve protection efforts for The Nature Conservancy, the adequacy of <br /> wildlife protection on private timberlands under the California Forest Practice <br /> Rules for the California Department of Forestry, and public economic <br /> benefits of alternative programs to reduce wildlife impacts of contaminated <br /> agricultural drainage water in California's San Joaquin Valley. Reviewed <br /> streambank management practices for forestry, livestock grazing, and <br /> recreation for use in developing management objectives and best management <br /> practices for Pacific Gas and Electric Company lands. <br />
