2.1.2 Secondary containment fit- tings Available secondary containment fit- tings are tees, 90°elbows, 450elbows, couplings, nipples, termination fit- tings (with or without 3/4" NPT threaded outlet) and saddles (belled or with NPT threaded outlets). 2.2.1 Piping Layout Before installing the secondary con- tainment piping system, review and verify the recommendations for proper installation set forth in the following sections: I. Inspection - refer to Part One Section 2. 2. Installation crew size and or- ganization - refer to Part One, Section 2. 3. Piping layout, pipe trenches, and burial — refer to Part One, Section 6. Most of the standard procedures for installing a secondary containment piping system can be handled by the same size crew that would install a single-wall product piping system. It is essential that each phase of an installation be evaluated and the proper number of workers be assigned to assure an efficient installation. 2.2.2 Pipe preparation and tool set-up and use Cutoff factory spigots and coup) ings as needed. Couplings may be needed for making containment pipe size reduc- tions or straight pipe runs. The ends of the containment pipe which are to be joined to secondary containment fittings must be thor- oughly scarfed or sanded for a mini- mum length of 3 inches (75mm). Any surface irregularities must be re- moved. This procedure is most easily accomplished by the use of the Model 2100 power tool available from Smith Fiberglass Products. Preset at the factory, it is capable of scarfing 3" and 4" (75mm and 100mm) RED THREAD IIA secondary containment pipe. (It also tapers 2" and 3" (50mm and 75mm) RED THREAD IIA pri- mary pipe; See Part One of this manual.) Refer to Smith Fiberglass Products' Bulletin No. F6625 for op- erating instructions. If the power tool is not available, the ends may be scarfed using the Smith Fiberglass Products' manual tool in conjunction with the Smith Fiber- glass Products' secondary contain- ment scarfing adapter tool kit. This kit consists of a special blade (approx. 4 inches/100mm long), orange blade holder, l /8" al len wrench, and 3" and W ing secondary containment pipe -to - fittings and fittings -to -fittings, fiber- glass filler must be added to the adhesive to ensure optimum perfor- mance of this type of bonded joint. Filler must be ordered from Smith Fiberglass Products. Duetothequan- tity of adhesive required for joining secondary containment fittings, it is recommended that only DS -7014 or DS -8014 and DS -7069 or DS -8069 kits be used. 2i FJBERCLIISS 4" (75 and 100 mm) scarfing gauges which are required to set the tool tolerances. The scarfing tool kit is easily adapted to Smith Fiberglass Products' 2"-6" (50-150mm) manual tapering tool kit. Assemble the proper size mandrel and scarfing blade holder following the procedures in Bulletin No. F6600, Installation Instructions for 1" - 6" Tapering Tool. Rotate the tool body so that the orange blade holder is at a 12 o'clock position (See Figure 2.2.1); this assures that the blade will rest on topofthegauge. Slide the proper size gauge all the way to the back of the mandrel. Insert the special blade into the blade holder all the way to the back of the tool body. After position- ing the black reference mark on the gauge under the blade, be sure that the blade makes uniform contactwith the gauge and that the blade holder is resting on the blade. Using the nuts, bolts, and washers supplied, tighten the blade holder to secure the blade. Now insert and slide the bearing plate into the slot located between the tool body and the blade holder.
