The lining system is to be installed as a 1/8"
thick coating, fusion bonded to the interior surface of an
existing tank, reinforced with fiberglass fibers and other
materials forming an impervious shell that stops and prevents
leaks. It eliminates corrosion from within the tank and retards
corrosion from outside elements in the soil.
This technical bulletin outlines the procedure for the
correct installations of this system. This method is to be used
as a guide to help eliminate the costly and hazardous problem of
replacing leaking underground storage tanks.
Gasoline, and other fuels and solvents by themselves cannot
iscause corrosion. The damage is done by the water and oxygen that
the above products pick up. At higher temperatures, these
products are more heavily saturated with water and oxygen than at
lower temperatures. As the product cools, the solubility of the
water decreases and droplets of water form and settle out. As an
example, when gasoline drops from a temperature of 1400 F to 80o
F, as much as 1/2 pound of water can come from 1650 gallons of
gasoline. This means that more than 20 gallons of water could
come from just one load of 6,000 gallons of gas.
The corrosion rate also depends on the type of fuel or
solvent. The more aromatic the product, the more water solubility
it will have and the greater the corrosion rate. For example,
premium fuel is more corrosive than regular fuel, and regular more
corrosive than kerosene.
Epoxy resins have long been recognized by corrosion engineers
as superior to polyester resins in solvent related services. With
the addition of methanol, ethanol and other octane promoters, the
use of polyester resins can no longer be trusted in gasoline
storage tanks do to the premature degradation of the resin.
The use of the NSS 37E EPDXY/FRP liner bonded to the interior
surface of the steel storage tank will result in a corrosion
proof liner built within the shell of the existing tank. This
system will completely bond to the entire tank providing a solid
protective liner, sealing off all leaks providing the following
specifications are met by the applicator.
INDUSTRIAL THERMOPLASTIC and FRP - LININGS - REPAIRS - COATINGS - TANKS - FITTINGS
SPECIALTY FABRICATION - PLATING SYSTEMS - AIR POLLUTION CONTROL SYSTEMS
