06/02/2018 - Patriot Environmental received a call from the US Coast Guard to respond to a
sinking 50-foot fishing vessel on a mooring at Village Marina, Ventura Harbor, Ventura County,
CA. Patriot Environmental Project Manager met with USCG and was directed to proceed with
containing and controlling the spread of leaking diesel fuel by deploying containment boom,
sorbent boom and sorbent pads. Under the direction of Patriot Environmental and the USCG,
subcontractors were tasked to re-float and stabilize the vessel utilizing a 250-ton hydraulic crane
and de-watering pumps. Once the vessel was deemed safe to board, Patriot Environmental de-
fueled approximately 1,800 gallons of red-dye diesel fuel from the vessel utilizing a 70 barrel
vacuum truck. Miscellaneous hazardous materials were removed from the vessel, contaminated
sorbents were removed from the surrounding waters and Patriot response resources were
properly decontaminated. Waste generated from the response was properly segregated, packaged
according to DOT regulations, transported off site and disposed of. Agencies involved were US
Coast Guard(NRC# 1213965), CA DFW-OSPR(OES# 18-3573), and Ventura Harbor Patrol.
Resources:
Personnel: 1 Project Manager
1 Health& Safety Manager
1 Field Supervisors
5 Field Technicians
2 Boat Operators
1 Equipment Operator
Equipment: 2 Response Trucks
4 Gear Trucks
1 Response Trailer
1 70-bbl Vacuum Truck
120 foot skiff w/20 hp out board motor
1 14 foot skiff w/9.9 out board motor
2000 feet of 18 inch Containment Boom(600 feet deployed)
34 Bales of 8"X 10' Sorbent Boom
24 Bales of Sorbent Pads
07/29/2018 —While servicing a fuel station, a metal plate punctured the fuel tank on a Williams
Tank Lines truck, causing an estimated 70 gallons diesel fuel release. Location of the release
15735 Leffingwell Rd., Whittier, CA. Patriot Environmental received the call to dispatch crew
and equipment to clean up the spill. Upon arrival, it was noted by Los Angeles County Fire
Department Health HAZMAT that an estimated 50 gallons of the 70 gallons of the release
entered a nearby storm drain. Patriot Supervisor dispatched a crew to the outfall of the storm
drain at Coyote Creek, built sand bag containment, underflow dam and prepared for flushing the
storm drain and recovery of the waste water and diesel fuel. Simple Green degreaser was used on
the surface and throughout the storm drain with high volume deluge of water. Waste generated
from the response was properly segregated, packaged according to DOT regulations, transported
off site and disposed of. Agency involved was Los Angeles County Fire Department Health
HAZMAT. (OES# 18-5112)
Resources:
