Utilizing crew and equipment, Patriot
gained access to the Slater Creek Channel by foot, implemented hard boom for containment and
recover spilled product. Patriot utilized a skid mounted guzzler and a 70 barrel vacuum truck at
the spill source to cleanup initial release point. Waste to be recovered, quantified and transported
off site for disposal per the approved waste management plan. A hydrocarbon sheen noticed around the vessel. Estimated potential of the release
stated at 400 gallons of red dye diesel fuel and an estimated 45 gallons of lubricating and
hydraulic oil. Patriot Project Manager met with USCG and a company representative from
Channel Watch Marine to examine the vessel. Patriot proceeded to set up containment boom and
sorbent boom around the vessel to contain/mitigate further release. Per the plan detailed by
USCG, Patriot and Channel Watch Marine, the vessel was to be floated and transported to
Ventura Harbor Boat Yard for de-fueling. Once secured at the boat yard, Patriot was directed to
proceed with removal of all pollution-related materials that were on board. Fuel was
removed/pump off the vessel utilizing a 70 barrel vacuum truck. Lube/Hydraulic oils removed by
hand pumps. Waste generated from the response was properly segregated, packaged according to
DOT regulations, transported off site and disposed of.
