This area is along the eastern perimeter of the facility,
approximately midway between the south and north facility perimeters. GPS Coordinates of sample
location: longitude: -121.261693; latitude: 37.908854 (see Attachment 1, Sample Location Map).
Sample Information/Field Observations:
In the tote, looking at the solution from the top, the solution was gray with foamy, tan spots around the top.
In the sample jar, the liquid was much lighter-colored and slightly cloudy, with the gray film and tan spots on
the top. The tote was a white, plastic 330-gallon container. Although it was stored in the Empty Tote
Storage Area, the tote was not empty; it was almost half full of the solution. A label on the tote said, "PLS i
do not use, for B gas only'. Reynon stated that the solution was a caustic for the bi-gas tank, however, he
did not know if it was solution slated to go to, or from, the bi-gas tank. The.tote also had a UN sticker on it
with the UN number 1824 (for sodium hydroxide). Reynon stated that this liquid would be shipped to the
Sparks, Nevada location to be used as an ingredient in a product made at that location.
Field Observations: The tote was approximately half full, however, it was stored with other empty and out-
of-service totes.
Field testing and other pertinent info: a pH strip used to measure the water showed a pH of approximately
14. This tote was found near the 5 gallon buckets that contained strong acidic waste collected as sample
TCS-06.
Analysis for sample location: ❑ total metals ❑ soluble metals ❑ TCLP ❑ mercury ❑ Chrom 6 ❑
PCBs ® pH ❑ flash pt ® fish bioassay ❑ asbestos ❑ motor oil range ❑ diesel range
❑ total petroleum hydrocarbons ❑ VOCs ❑ Semivol ❑ < 100 micron size ❑ other (specify):
Photos: See Attachment 4, Photo #'s: 36-42
Page 9 of 12
