• Wear appropriate respiratory protection when performing dusty work. (i.e. <br /> concrete cutting, mixing cement etc.) <br /> • Inspect wire, rope, hoisting hardware, swivels, hooks, bearings, sheaves, <br /> guides, rollers, clutches, brakes for the following: abrasions, breaks, wear, <br /> fatigue, corrosion, jamming and kinking. <br /> • Suspension of loads when hoist is unattended should be avoided. <br /> • Hoisting loads directly over field personnel shall not be permitted. <br /> • Restrict hoisting operations during unfavorable environmental conditions such <br /> as rain or high winds. <br /> • Maintain safe distance from hoisting equipment (e.g., wire rope, hooks, pinch <br /> points) when slack is reduced. <br /> • Responsibilities of driller, geologists, field crew, etc. during drilling operations <br /> shall be established before work activities are initiated. <br /> • Hand auger the first five feet in all borings. <br /> • Begin auger borings slowly with the drive engine operating at low RPMs. <br /> • Restrict contact with power coupling or auger during rotation. <br /> • Prevent placing hands or feet under auger during rotation. <br /> • Prevent placing hands or feet under auger sections during hoisting over hard <br /> surfaces. <br /> • Avoid the removal of soil/cuttings with hands or feet. <br /> • Cleaning shall occur when drill rig is in neutral and the augers are not <br /> rotating. <br /> 7.3 Decontamination/Cleaning Activities Safety Guidelines <br /> Hazards/Controls <br /> • The fact that decontamination or cleaning activities are taking place implies <br /> that chemical contamination is present and must be protected against.
