D. Housekeeping: (cont'd) <br />An active education program will be provided for personnel, giving <br />appropriate emphasis to those aspects of housekeeping which contri- <br />bute to infection control, and staff will be kept up-to-date on new <br />materials and methods. <br />E. Laundry: <br />Written procedures will be established with regard to all laundry <br />functions. All procedures will be aimed at producing a finished <br />linen product which is microbiologically and chemically safe for <br />the patient. Washing, ironing, tumbling, etc., will be accomplished <br />at temperatures which are equivalent to good commercial practice. <br />Laundry equipment, layout, work flow, ventilation, processing times <br />and temperatures, separation of clean and soiled materials, handling <br />practices, etc., will conform to all applicable State and Federal <br />standards. <br />F. Maintenance: <br />The facility will provide a maintenance program to keep the physical <br />plant, heating, ventilation, electrical and plumbing systems in com- <br />pliance with all applicable State and Federal standards. All other <br />equipment including patient equipment and furniture, except those <br />that require highly technical expertise, will also be in compliance <br />with all applicable State and Federal standards. <br />XII. FOR PROGRAM LMPLEMENTATION <br />A. Administrator: <br />The Administrator will be responsible for implementation of policy <br />statements for each department in the facility. The Administrator <br />will designate an Infection Control Nurse (ICN), appoint the members <br />of the Infection Control Committee, and schedule meetings every <br />three months or more often as necessary.
