U,ienna Nursang&Rehabilitation Cent <br /> Sharps waste, including sharps and pharmaceutical waste is contained in a United States <br /> Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) approved sharps container that meets USFDA <br /> labeling. Container is labeled "SHARPS WASTE" or"BIOHAZARD" with the international <br /> biohazard symbol. <br /> • When the sharp container is 3/full, manufacturer's recommended fill line, tightly close and <br /> shut the lid. Lids of full sharps container is tightly or snapped closed, taped, or otherwise <br /> i <br /> sealed ready for disposal to preclude loss of contents. Full sharp containers are secured in <br /> the designated accumulation area for pick up by contractor. Sharps containers ready for j <br /> i <br /> disposal are not stored for not more than thirty(30) days without the written approval of the <br /> enforcement agency. Place the sharp container in a biohazard bag, twist and tied bag before <br /> disposal to accumulation area.The containerized waste is being held for shipment offsite for <br /> treatment. <br /> • Full sharps containers are collected regularly and replaced with empty sharp containers by <br /> Licensed Nursing Staff. <br /> 3. Pharmaceutical Waste <br /> • Pharmaceutical waste that are not subject to the Federal Resource Conservation and <br /> Recovery Act of 1976 and that are regulated as medical waste are segregated and <br /> packaged into appropriate containers, separated from biohazardous waste and <br /> sharp waste. When a new pharmaceutical container is started to be used for pharmaceutical <br /> waste, the container shall be labeled with the date on the date it is placed in use. The <br /> container is labeled with the biohazardous waste symbol and the words"HIGH HEAT" or <br /> "INCINERATION ONLY", or with another label approved by the CDPH, on the lid and sides, <br /> so as to be visible from any lateral direction. <br /> • Pharmaceutical wastes classified as "controlled substances" by the Drug Enforcement <br /> Administration (DEA) shall be disposed of in compliance with DEA requirements. <br /> • When pharmaceutical waste container is full, it is stored in the designated accumulation <br /> area until ready for pick up. The facility may store pharmaceutical waste at an onsite location <br /> for not longer than 90 days when the container is ready for disposal.
