Wrapping <br />Wrapping materials must be large enough to completely cover and protect the items <br />to be packaged. A wrapper that is too large will be bulky and difficult to handle when <br />opening the package. A wrapper that is too small will not adequately protect the <br />contents of the package when opening. <br />• Items are wrapped in two wrappers using the single-step technique with all <br />corners of the wrapper folded in. <br />• A small cuff on the first fold of the wrapper over the contents provides a <br />safety margin when opening the item. <br />• When wrapping with 140 thread count linen, the wrappers must consist of <br />four thickness, or two double wrappers. One thickness of 280 thread count <br />wrappers is equal to two thicknesses of 140 thread count wrappers. <br />• Packages should be secured with pressure sensitive indicator tape which <br />indicates exposures to the sterilization cycle. <br />• Packages are limited in size to 12 x 12 x 20, and in weight to 12 pounds. <br />• Packages must be able to withstand 40 pounds of pressure per square inch. <br />• Components of the package must be large enough to completely cover area <br />without touching the floor. <br />• Components must be folded correctly. <br />• Components must have directional markings to ensure proper unfolding and <br />positioning. <br />12.09 -20- <br />
