• Information on the appropriate actions to take and persons to contact in an <br />emergency involving blood or other potentially infectious materials. <br />• An explanation of the procedures to follow if an exposure incident occurs. <br />Include the method of reporting the incident and the medical follow-up to be <br />made available. <br />• Information on the post -exposure evaluation and follow-up that the <br />employer will provide for the employee following an exposure incident. <br />• Explanation of the color and word codes which are in place on containers <br />around work stations. <br />• Provision of an opportunity for interactive questions and answers with <br />person conducting the training session. <br />• Post -Exposure Evaluation and Follow -Up <br />6.4.2. Post -Exposure Procedures — Follow the steps listed below after exposure to <br />blood or other infectious materials. <br />• Cleanse area immediately following exposure. <br />• Notify your supervisor after cleaning the exposed area. <br />• Obtain counseling immediately (will be provided by Sierra Occupational <br />Services Medical Clinic), no later than one hour after exposure. <br />• A physician will evaluate the employee immediately following counseling <br />and if appropriate, order baseline lab work. The employee will be notified <br />of positive results as soon as they are available. <br />• Management is responsible for completing an Employee First Report of <br />Injury. <br />• The physician will determine the status of employee. The physician will <br />offer the immunization and vaccines as needed. <br />• The employee's physician will notify the employee regarding <br />recommendations for enrollment into the CDC Health Care Worker <br />Exposure Program. <br />• If the employee consents to baseline blood collection, but does not give <br />consent at that time for HIV serologic testing, the sample shall be preserved <br />for at least 90 days. If, within 90 days of the exposure incident, the <br />employee elects to have the baseline sample tested, such testing shall be <br />done as soon as feasible. <br />6.4.3. Information provided to the healthcare profession: <br />• A copy of OSHA Standard on Occupational Exposure to Bloodborne <br />Pathogens (29 CRF Part 1910 — 1030) and the California Code of <br />Regulations Title 8 Section 5193 Blood Borne Pathogens will be provided to <br />the Healthcare Professional administering the Hepatitis B vaccine. <br />• The following will be provided to the Healthcare Professional evaluating an <br />employee after an exposure incident: <br />• A copy of OSHA Standard on Occupational Exposure to Bloodborne <br />Pathogens (29 DFR Part 1910 — 1030) and the Cal. Code of Reg. Title 8 <br />Section 5193 Blood Borne Pathogens. <br />• A description of the exposed employee's duties as they relate to the exposure <br />incident. <br />12.09 -22- <br />
