Box 808
Livermore, CA 94551
Subject: Written comments/reply on Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Draft
Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and Environmental Impact Report (EIR)
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division (EHD) has reviewed the Draft EIS
and EIR, the following questions and comments were raised by members of our staff.
Please keep in mind that our concerns are primarily for the Lawrence Livermore
National Laboratory (LLNL) Site 300, since this site is predominantly located in San
Joaquin County:
1) EHD would like to have any maps available about the precise locations of all of the
sewage systems/disposal areas. We would also like any other related diagrams, data,
etc... concerning disposal of wastewater.
2) EHD is concerned that the three abandoned wells mentioned on p. 4 - 163(vol 1)
are "abandoned" within the criteria of our San Joaquin County Well Ordinance # 1862
( in which most wells are destroyed with cement from bottom to top).
3) Is the drinking water from the water wells on site routinely tested for Primary
Drinking Water Standards? EHD would like to have forwarded, copies of all
groundwater sampling results.
4) The "dry wells" mentioned on p. C - 81 (vol 11) need to be properly abandoned, as
per San Joaquin County Ordinance # 1862.
5) EHD recommends remediation of all ground water contamination in San Joaquin
County at LLNL Site 300.
6) Where is the Ash from the burn disposal area mentioned on pgs. A - 126 & 137(vol
11) unit being stored and where is it being disposed?
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
