w
R E C E
JUN 12 1992
June 10, 1992
TO: All Haulers using Austin Road Landfill
FROM: Stephen Chen, Deputy Public Works Director/SWB
SUBJECT: EMERGENCY REGULATIONS FOR THE PERMITTING OF WASTE TIRE
FACILITIES (WTF's)
This to notify you that effective January 1, 1993, the Austin Road
Landfill will stop accepting AU waste tires.
Assembly Bill 1515 requires that after January 1, 1993, landfilling
of waste tires is prohibited, unless tires are reduced in volume by
shredding or other methods approved by the California Integrated
Waste Management Board (see attached letter).
Per my letter dated May 22, 1991, it was stated that truckloads of
tires would not be accepted, however, some tires were being
accepted at the landfill. Effective January 1, 1993, this practice
will no longer endure. Loads found to contain env tires will be
rejected.
Because of diminishing landfill capacity and the California
Integrated Waste Management Act requirements, we encourage all
haulers to find ways to recycle waste tires. If you need
information regarding collection, hauling, shredding, or recycling
of waste tires, please contact Mike Miller, Solid Waste Manager,at
944-8826 or Fred Patterson, Recycling Coordinator, at 944-8831.
STEPHEN CHEN
DEPUTY PUBLIC WORKS
SC: fp
DIRECTOR/SWB
cc: Ed Padilla, San Joaquin County Public Health
Dwane Milnes, City Manager
James Giottonini, Public Works Director
Mike Miller, Solid Waste Manager
Phil Giambastiani, Operations Manager, Austin Road Landfill
