DAILY FIELD REPORT Page 1 of 1
Project Name: Foothill Sanitary Landfill - Area 2A Report Number: 009
Project Number: 11-101-01 Date: Thursday 05/21/15
Owner: Dept. of Public Works, San Joaquin County CQA Monitors: T. Sathees
Contractor: R J Gordon Construction, Inc.
Weather: Partly cloudy Wind: 0-10 mph.
Tem erature: Approx. range 50-75 F Other:
The contractor worked from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm.
Excavation: 7:00 am to 5:30 pm. Up to (1) CAT D6 and (1) CAT D8 dozers with ripper attachments assisted up to (4) CAT 627
and (2) CAT 637 scrapers load material from the excavation along north side of the cell. The soil was hauled and stockpiled at
North West Stockpile for use as daily cover for current landfill operations, and to Earthfill construction along south side of the
Cell. The soil was hauled on an approximate 5 -min cycle. (1) CAT 14H motorgrader was observed and fine grading the north
slopes (upper slopes) at the cell.
The CAT D6 dozer also assisted clearing the vegetation and top soil at east side of the sell (upper slopes) for future hauling.
North West Stockpile: 7:00 am to 5:30 pm. (1) CAT 14H motorgrader was observed spreading and grading the soil in the
Stockpile fill areas, Earthfill areas, and maintaining haul roads. (1) CAT 621 water pull was used to maintain haul roads.
South Stockpile 1 (Foundation): No activity was observed. The Contractor estimated the current quantity of Stockpile as
20,000 cubic yards, and ceased the stockpiling operations, as it is enough to complete the entire Foundation layer.
South Stockpile 2 (Operations Layer Soil): 2:00 pm to 5:30 pm. Three composite samples of mixture of brown silty sand
and grey clean sand (2 samples from Northwest stockpile, and 1 sample from upper cut area along north side of the Cell)
were obtained and tested for fines content. The results ranged from 21 % at the cut area to 23-30 % at the Northwest
stockpile of the portion finer that 3/8 -inch, and therefore the Contractor was advised by AES to stockpile these sandy
materials in a separate stockpile for use as Operations Layer in the future. The Contractor then prepared and area next to
existing Foundation Stockpile to stockpile the sandier material for Operations Layer. (1) 14H blade removed the vegetation
and smoothed the surface. The Contractor scheduled to start stockpiling activity tomorrow.
Access Road Embankment Fill (Earthfill): 7:00 am to 11:00 am. No additional fill was placed today. (1) CAT 621 water pull
moisture -conditioned the existing surface of the Earthfill. The CAT 825 compactor was used to break the big clods at the
surface and to compact the remainng Earthfill material.
Liner Subgrade Earthfill along South side of the Cell: 1:00 pm to 5:30 pm. (1) CAT 621 water pull moisture -conditioned
the existing surface of the Earthfill. (1) 14H motorgrader was used to rip the upper surface, and (1) CAT 825 compactor was
used to break the big clods at the surface and to compact the existing subgrade.
Equipment Onsite: (1) CAT D8T dozer, (1) CAT D6T dozer, (1) CAT 621G water pull, (6) CAT 627 scrapers, (3) CAT 637
scrapers, (1) 14H motorgrader, (1) CAT 825H compactor
Problems/Resolutions.
Visitors:
Reviewed By: M.
