DAILY FIELD REPORT Paize 1 of 1
Project Name: Foothill Sanitary Landfill - Area 2A Report Number: 025
Project Number: 11-101-01 Date: Monday 06/15/15
Owner: Dept. of Public Works, San Joaquin County CQA Monitors: T. Sathees
Contractor: R J Gordon Construction, Inc. M. Hu and
Weather: Clear Wind: 0-10 mph.
Temperature: A2prox. range 70-100 F Other:
The contractor worked from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm.
Excavation: Up to (1) CAT D6, (1) CAT D8 and up to (3) CAT 627 scrapers continued excavating Drainage Basin 2 at
southeast of the project area and hauled the material to the South Stockpile 3. After 3:30 pm the excavation activity was
stopped.
(1) Hitachi 300 excavator was used to remove and trim the soil at high spots at slopes along north and east side of the cell.
One laborer assisted the process with a shovel.
(1) CAT 14H motorgrader and (1) CAT D6 dozer part time trimmed the upper slopes along east side of the cell. (1) CAT 621
water pull was used to maintain excavation areas.
South Stockpile 1 (Foundation): (1) CAT 82S compactor was used to break the big clods in the morning. (1) CAT 621 water
pull assisted the processing by moisture conditioning the stockpile.
South Stockpile 2 (Operations): No activity was observed.
South Stockpile 3: The scrapers hauled and stockpile the soil from the excavation at Drainage Basin 2 at Southeast of the
project area. (1) CAT 621 water pull was used to maintain fill areas, and haul roads.
Access Road Embankment Fill (Earthfill): No activity was observed.
Foundation Layer: (1) CAT 825 compactor prepared the subgrade prior to placement of the Foundation layer soil. Mid-
morning, (2) CAT 637 scrapers (replaced with two CAT 627 from 3:30 to 4:30 pm) started hauling the soil from South
Stockpile 1 (Foundation) and placed thin lifts at south west area of the cell floor. The 825 compactor was used to break the
big clods and to compact the Foundation soil. (1) CAT 14H motorgrader was used for spreading and mixing the soil. (1) CAT
621 water pull was used to moisture -condition the subgrade and Foundation soil. Three locations (where 3 -4 -inch thick of
Foundation layer is achieved) were examined in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the processing -effort to help assist the
Contractor. It was found that the approximately 15 % of the material had clods sizes of 1 to 2 inches, with scattered plus 2 -
inch size clods. The contractor was advised that additional effort to break down the bigger clods would be needed. One
composite sample was obtained, and the fines content was 32 % of the portion finer that 3/8 -inch. One check point was also
conducted on the composite sample to help select the appropriate compaction curve.
Equipment Onsite: (1) CAT D8T dozer, (1) CAT D6T dozer, (1) CAT D6R dozer (with slope board) (1) CAT 621G water pull,
(4) CAT 627 scrapers, (3) CAT 637 scrapers, (1) 14H motorgrader, (1) CAT 825H compactor, (1) water truck, (1) Hitachi 300
excavator.
Problems/Resolutions.
Visitors: M.
