TOTAL WASTE DELIVERED TO LANDFILLS DURING 1988
IN THE COUNTY OF SAN JOAQUIN
The County of San Joaquin has a total of four general use landfills
which accept municipal household waste. The amount of refuse
delivered to each of those sites during 1988 is as follows:
Disposal Site Total Tons Received
Harney Lane Sanitary Landfill. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 124, 901
Austin Road Sanitary Landfill. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 152,452
Foothill Sanitary Landfill. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 127, 116
Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . • 72 , 998
Total 477,467
There are two additional landfills in San Joaquin County, the
French Camp Sanitary Landfill and the Forward Inc. Sanitary
Landfill. These sites, however, do not accept municipal household
waste. The French Camp site receives only tree trimmings and yard
clippings. The Forward Inc. facility accepts commercial and
industrial waste, and certain designated waste. The total amount
of waste received at these sites during 1988 follows:
Disposal Site Total Tons Received
French Camp Sanitary Landfill. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .45,240
Forward Inc. Sanitary Landfill . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .78 ,282
Total 123,522
Combining the above totals indicate, that 600,989 tons of waste were
landfilled in San Joaquin County in 1988.
WASTE GENERATION RATE
With the exception of the waste generated in Refuse Service Area
A (Thornton area) , and the City of Escalon, all of the County's
solid waste is landfilled within San Joaquin County. Excluding the
population from those two areas, the 1988 waste generation rate per
person per day in San Joaquin County is 8 lbs, calculated as
follows:
Total Tons Landfilled in 1988. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 600,989
x 2 , 000
Equals 1,201,978, 000 pounds
Total 1988 County Population. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .449,800
(City of Escalon and Refuse Service Area A population
excluded. )
Therefore, 1,201,978, 000/449,800/365 days = 8 lbs/person/day
In comparison with the State and national waste generation rates
1
