All materials listed above are diverted for recycling except waste sent to the Stanislaus
County Waste-To-Energy facility from the Lovelace Transfer Station.
There is no formal agreement between San Joaquin and Stanislaus Counties governing this
transfer of materials.
Recycling at solid waste facilities represents only a portion of the diversion being
accomplished by the public and private sectors throughout the County.
State regulations require Counties to gather quantitative information from disposal site
operators, combine the data, and allocate quantities disposed for each jurisdiction. This
information must be reported on a quarterly basis to the Cities and the State beginning in
1995. This allocation has been calculated and is presented in the first Table in the
Appendix.
H. WASTE DIVERTED IN SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY:
In addition to waste diversion programs operating at landfill sites, numerous private entities,
such as waste haulers and recyclers, operate diversion programs as well. Quarterly and
annual diversion information is requested from these companies in San Joaquin County.
They are asked to report the type of material diverted, tonnage and which jurisdiction the
material came from.
Due to reporting limitations, these reports do not account for all diversion activities taking
place in San Joaquin County, but are a measure of a large portion of existing diversion
activity. Thus, actual waste diversion tonnages may vary significantly. i
Diversion figures for San Joaquin County were not available at the time of publication.
I. WASTE LANDFILLED PER CAPITA:
With the exception of waste generated in the City of Escalon, all of the County's solid waste
which is disposed is landfilled within San Joaquin County. The 1994 waste landfilled per
person per day in San Joaquin County is estimated as follows:
8
