WMU D-99 Construction September 1999
Forward Landfill Job No.986011.02
2.0 PROJECT CONSTRUCTION SUMMARY
Construction components of the project consisted of earthworks and geosynthetics
tasks. The earthwork tasks included subgrade excavation and fill operations,
foundation layer placement, preparation (admixing) of the clay liner material and
placement of clay liner(WMU D-99), installation of a granular leachate collection and
removal system (LCRS), and placement of protective operations layer. The
geosynthetics tasks included installing the GCL, the 60-mil high-density polyethylene
(HDPE) geomembrane, gecomposite, and geotextile.
The earthworks tasks described above were conducted by Guinn Construction (Guinn)
and Forward personnel. Direct supervision of the construction crews was provided by
Duane Meadows and Robert Burns of Guinn. Installation of the geosynthetic
components was performed by GSE. Direct supervision of the geosynthetics crews
was provided by Bill Gerry of GSE.
The excavation, fill, and subgrade preparation conducted by Guinn and Forward was
initiated on or about May 10, 1999. Stockpiling and mixing of the clay liner material
began on June 1, 1999 and was completed on June 2, 1999. Placement of the clay
liner by Guinn began on June 14, 1999 and was completed by June 24, 1999. GSE
began deployment of the geosynthetic materials within WMU D-99 on June 30, 1999
with completion on July 22, 1999. Earthwork and subgrade preparation for the
Leachate Impoundment was not completed until August 12, 1999 which necessitated
GSE to demobilize from the site and return at a later date. Deployment of the
geosynthetic materials on the Leachate Impoundment began on August 16, 1999 with
final completion on August 30, 1999.
The composite liner system for WMU D-99, the Eastern Ash Pit Closure, and the
Class II Leachate Impoundment at the Forward Landfill is complete and was installed in
general accordance with the plans and specifications and CQA manual.
Vector Engineering, Inc. - 12438 Loma Rica Dr.,#C - Grass Valley, CA- (530)272-2448
-4-
