MEETING NOTES
Page 2
May 7, 1999
INTRODUCTION
• Scott will be the construction manger for the project and will coordinate with Pete.
Sangeeta will provide engineering support to Scott. Vector will provide CQA
services.
• Duane Meadows will be project manger for Guinn with support from Tim.
DeWalt will provide the surveying.
• GSE will be the geosynthetics contractor.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Sangeeta mentioned that the WMU D-99 design is still being reviewed by the regulators and
hasn't been approved. Approval has been received on the base of WMU D-99, which was
originally part of WMU D-98. Regulatory approval of all of WMU D-99 should be received
in the next couple of weeks. Guinn can start working on the base of WMU D-99, but lining
of the Eastern Ash Pit and WMU D-88 slopes will have to wait until regulatory approval is
received.
Revised fullsize and half size drawings were distributed.
• Excavation—Sangeeta noted that approximately 50,000 cy of excavation was
required. In the past, the excavated material was used for the subgrade fill. This
time, however, Forward is placing subgrade fill so Guinn will need to place
excavated material in the stockpile to the west of WMU D-99. Guinn said this was
ok.
• Clay Liner—The specifications for the clay liner admix are the same as in the past.
Guinn will use same mixing pad area as last year.
• Subgrade Fill—Forward is currently placing the subgrade fill. The subgrade fill on
the Eastern Ash Pit will be completed by May 5. The waste and subgrade fill in
the WMU D-88 area should be completed next week. The specification
requirements for the subgrade fill are 90 percent compaction. Vector will perform
compaction and nuclear density tests on the subgrade fill. The subgrade fill on the
Eastern Ash Pit slopes needs to be approximately 1-2 ft thick. The subgrade fill on
the WMU D-88 slopes needs to be a total of 5-ft thick on the 4:1 slopes and 4-ft
thick on the 2:1 slopes. Forward will pothole the existing WMU D-88 slopes to
see how much interim cover soil currently exists on the slopes. Vector will
pothole after Forward is done with subgrade fill placement on WMU D-88 to
verify that an adequate thickness has been placed.
Sangeeta requested that DeWalt survey the Ash Pit and WMU D-88 area after
Forward is completed with subgrade fill placement. Jeff Affonso said that since
