Shredded Tires: Shredded tires accepted at the site for ADC have a
particle size restriction such that fifty percent by volume is smaller than
6-inches in length and the maximum size is 12-inches in length.
Shredded tires are delivered directly to the working face and stockpiled
to the side. If more material comes in than is required for the day, the
material is stockpiled within the waste management unit and used, as
needed. The shredded tires are evenly spread over the active face in
an approximately 6-inch lift using a dozer. If there is precipitation or a
local forecast with greater than 40 percent chance of precipitation
within 8 hours of ADC application time in the vicinity of the landfill, an
approximately 2-inch layer of soil is spread over the shredded tires
such that no voids are left exposed.
Ash and Cement Kiln Dust: Ash and cement kiln dust, that meets the
requirements of 27 CCR Section 20690, are delivered directly to the working
face and stockpiled to the side. If more material comes in than is required for
the day, the material is stockpiled within the waste management unit and
used, as needed. If the ash or cement kiln dust is such that it can be placed
without creating voids or causing material to be tracked off the working face
area, it is spread and compacted evenly over the active face in a minimum 6-
inch lift and average compacted lift thickness of less than 18-inches using a
dozer. If the ash or cement"kiln dust has larger particles that can not be
placed without creating voids, the material will be blended with soil such that
no voids are left exposed and the ash or cement kiln dust will not be tracked
off the working face area. In addition, the ash and cement kiln dust is
utilized in a manner to minimize the creation of dust by spraying with water
trucks and, when feasible, stockpiling and placing material in locations that
are protected from the wind.
Compost Materials (off-spec, delivered by generator): Compost materials are
delivered directly to the working face and stockpiled to the side. If more
material comes in than is required for the day, the material is stockpiled
within the waste management unit and used, as needed. The compost
material is spread evenly over the active face in an approximately 6-inch lift
using a dozer.
Forward Landfill JTD 6-10
L:\Allied\2000.193\Reports\finaljtd:Sec-6.0 6-9-03:5/22/02
Rev. 1: 7/2002: Rev. 2:4/2003; Rev 3: 6/2003
