consistent with the manifest. The load checker notifies the Operations Manager if any <br /> discrepancies are observed. The load checker also collects the load check <br /> forms/documentation for filing and reconciliation with scale house records for the day. <br /> Every load is inspected at the active face of the disposal area by site personnel (i.e., <br /> load checkers and/or equipment operators) for hazardous, universal waste or <br /> unacceptable waste. Conducting load checks should deter attempts by haulers to <br /> conceal prohibited wastes in their loads. These load checks are conducted on any <br /> waste carrying vehicle (commercial or residential) entering the site. <br /> If hazardous or unacceptable waste is detected in the load, the operator tells the <br /> customer to either remove the waste from the landfill or have the waste removed by a <br /> hazardous waste hauler. The appropriate form will be completed to document the <br /> operator's rejection of the load. <br /> Containerized hazardous wastes that are found after the hauler has left the site are <br /> moved to the hazardous waste storage locker for less than 90 days storage prior to <br /> proper offsite disposal. The containers of hazardous waste are labeled with the <br /> customer's name (if known), marked with the waste and generator information (if <br /> known), and the date and time of delivery. Wastes are removed from the hazardous <br /> waste storage locker before any waste has been stored for 90 days or once the locker <br /> reaches 90 percent of its capacity, which ever happens first. <br /> If the customer that hauled the hazardous or unacceptable waste is known, the landfill <br /> notifies them that the waste must be removed by them and disposed of at a licensed <br /> site. If the customer refuses to handle waste removal, the landfill contracts with a <br /> hazardous waste hauler to remove and dispose of the waste properly and Forward <br /> pays these expenses. <br /> If hazardous materials are discovered that are not containerized such that reloading of <br /> the waste onto the vehicle is not possible, the area is marked off to limit access and all <br /> employees are evacuated from the spill area.
